New Technologies in Culture and Art: Harmful or Helpful, Beneficial or Risky

The section is going to examine how digital tools, platforms, and artificial intelligence are changing the cultural environment. It will address the new opportunities open to authors, museums, theatres, media projects, and the creative industries, and how technology is affecting the very nature of creativity, the perception of art, and the role of the individual in the cultural process. Participants will discuss where the line runs between a tool and a replacement for the author, how new technologies help widen audiences and open culture up to different generations, and what is happening to the ‘value content’ of art in the digital age. At the heart of the conversation is the question of whether technological development can strengthen culture as a space of meaning rather than dilute it.
