“Besogon and Culture”: Nikita Mikhalkov to Hold a Thematic Meeting with Participants of the United Cultures Forum

On November 16, as part of the business programme of the United Cultures Forum, a meeting with the renowned Russian film director Nikita Mikhalkov and a special screening of excerpts from his original television program “BesogonTV” will take place. The conversation will center around various aspects of the choice of moral and ethical guidelines which is fundamental for any society.


On November 16-18, the Saint Petersburg International Cultural Forum – the United Cultures Forum – will be staged on the banks of the Neva. The Forum's organizers are the Government of the Russian Federation, the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Government of Saint Petersburg.

On the Forum's first day, its central venue — the General Staff of the Hermitage — will host a thematic meeting “Besogon and Culture” with the icon of Soviet and Russian cinema and prominent public activist Nikita Mikhalkov who is going to raise the pressing issues of value orientations of an individual and society as a whole.

What was the basis for the formation of personality over the course of many historical periods? How was the significance and quality of so-called influencers changing over time? What is the true peril for any community in forsaking traditional values, cultural heritage and religious symbols ? Nikita Mikhalkov invites to ponder over these and many other questions at a meeting with the Forum participants following the screening of a special thematic selection of extracts from his original BesogonTV program.

The event is part of the program of the thematic session “Theatre” led by the Minister of Culture of the Russian Federation Olga Lyubimova. The meeting “Besogon and Culture” will take place from 16.00 to 17.30. To participate, accreditation to the Forum is mandatory.
