Moscow — the City of Cinema. Digitization of Russian Cities: Moscow’s Case for Improving the Efficiency of Film Commissions

16/11/2023
14:30 — 16:30
General Staff Building, Red Hall 6/8 Palace sq., St. Petersburg

A world-class cinema cluster is being developed in Moscow to promote the city and Russia as the central cinema hub in Europe and Asia.

Moscow is the center of the Russian film industry. More than 90% of Russian films and TV series are shot in the capital. At the same time, market participants are highly interested in additional areas and entourage locations. New technologies and qualified personnel are required. In response to these requests, the Moscow Government is creating Russia’s largest film media cluster. It will propel Moscow’s cinema industry, making it more competitive and providing unprecedented technological opportunities. The task is to organize the pavilions of tomorrow. In March, work began on one of the three cluster sites — METMASH, located on Ryazan Avenue. In addition to this site, the cluster will also include the Moskino Film Park in Krasnaya Pakhra, which is a location for full-scale filming, as well as the updated Gorky Film Studio, where modern content will be created. Moscow is also preparing to establish itself as the largest film cluster for foreign content producers in Eastern Europe, on par with Seoul and Dubai. This will directly and positively impact the economy of both the city and the country, as well as tourism and services, and create new jobs.

Representatives of the Moscow Department of Culture will explain the inner workings of Moscow’s unique and exquisite experience and how it can be scaled to other regions and countries. Heads of regional film commissions are invited to participate in the online broadcast.

  • Alexey Fursin, Head of the Department of Culture of Moscow (Russia);
