The Legacy Bequeathed by the Ancestors. Ethno-Cultural Heritage as the Way to Mutual Understanding of Peoples

General Staff Building, Green Hall 6/8 Palace sq., St. Petersburg

One of Russia’s leading cultural policy goals in modern times is fostering patriotism through traditional moral and ethical values, particularly for youth. Traditional culture, in all the richness of its manifestation, plays a considerable role in this.

The problem of preservation of the original folk culture, the cultural heritage accumulated over the centuries and its practical use for the civil consolidation of society, strengthening mutual understanding and good-neighborly relations between peoples is of particular relevance.

  • How can intangible ethno-cultural heritage be preserved and integrated into modern society?
  • How can children and young people be encouraged to learn about folk culture traditions?
  • Which forms and measures should governmental support take?
  • How can we help create and develop successful projects that promote ethnic and cultural heritage and national traditions?
  • Digitalization and intangible ethno-cultural heritage. Partners or rivals?
