From September 10 to 23, the White Hall of the State Academic Capella of St. Petersburg will host an exhibition by the Cinema Museum entitled "The threads of dreams intertwined with the sound of beautiful music...", which will be dedicated to the art of creating historical costumes for cinema and theater.

Costumes are one of the key elements of the performing arts, having a significant impact on both the perception of a work of art and the emotional state of the viewer. Their role is evident in several aspects: they are responsible for historical authenticity, emphasize the characteristic plastic expressiveness of a character, and reflect the artistic concept and style of a film or performance. A good costume transforms the actor, turning them into a stage hero who literally comes to life before the audience's eyes, conveying all the depth and expressiveness of the intended image.

The exhibition "The threads of dreams intertwined with the sound of beautiful music..." offers a fascinating journey into the world of stage costume art, combining fashion, theater, and cinema.

The exhibition will feature works by students of the Department of Stage Design and Theater Technology at the Moscow Art Theater School-Studio — future costume designers. Today, they are successfully continuing the work of their teacher, People's Artist of Russia Eleonora Petrovna Maklakova, founder of the Department of Stage Costume.

In addition to student works, visitors will be able to see a costume inspired by a portrait of the English queen Anne Boleyn and handcrafted by Olga Kalko, chief specialist of the exhibition department of the Museum of Cinema. Anne Boleyn's dresses have gone down in history as the most striking images of the European Renaissance.

In addition, the exhibition will feature copies of costume sketches from the Film Museum's collection. According to the curator's concept, the sketches are arranged in such a way as to show the sequential development of costume over the centuries.

The world of fashion is endlessly cyclical: classic costume elements—patterns, cut lines, decorative techniques—are constantly being reinterpreted and manifested in contemporary culture, on the world's catwalks, and in everyday life. This exhibition will be a unique opportunity to see and feel the connection between times, to gain a deeper understanding of how history influences our present day.
