The Sergei Kurekhin Center for Contemporary Art 93A Sredny av. of Vasilevsky Island, St. Petersburg

On 11 September 2025, St. Petersburg will celebrate the grand opening of the reconstructed Sergei Kuryokhin Center for Contemporary Art at 93 Sredny Prospekt, Vasilyevsky Island. The opening of the Center is one of the key events of the XI St. Petersburg United Cultures Forum.

Founded in 2004 and named after the outstanding late-20th-century musician and composer, the Center has long been an integral part of the city’s cultural infrastructure. Conceived as a space for creative dialogue between the art of the past and the future, it invites every visitor to become part of a unique cultural experience.
The Sergei Kuryokhin Center for Contemporary Art, located in the former Priboy cinema, has been under reconstruction since 2016. After reconstruction, the Center for

Contemporary Art will become a unique multi-functional complex, featuring:

  • A 1,000-seat Grand Hall for large-scale concerts and theater productions;
  • A flexible Black Box for concerts, performances, lectures, and video installations;
  • A concert and exhibition space in the second-floor lobby;
  • A contemporary amphitheater;
  • Gastronomy zones: café and restaurant;
  • Professional studios for TV shoots and music rehearsals;
  • A media fund and repositories for archival materials;
  • A permanent exhibition dedicated to Sergei Kuryokhin;
  • Exhibition spaces for temporary shows;
  • Lounge areas with terraces.

The Center will continue the tradition of hosting international festivals such as SKIF (Sergei Kuryokhin International Festival), "Electro-Mechanica," "Ethno-Mechanica," "Videoforma," "Art-Stena," "Digital Mechanica," and "Art-Mechanica." It will present exhibitions, concerts, and performances that unite tradition and innovation. The reopening of the Sergei Kuryokhin Center for Contemporary Art is a testament to the city’s active commitment to developing contemporary art.
